FindMeSAR (https://findmesar.com)

Sometimes when there is a wireless call to 911 the PSAP does not get Phase II coordinates at all. Other times the accuracy value is so large that the Phase II coordinates are not very useful. When other wireless location technology fails, then the PSAP dispatcher can ask the caller to browse to findmesar.com, go to the colored screen that corresponds to the coordinate format used in that jurisdiction, wait a few seconds for the accuracy to improve and then read their (1) coordinates, (2) accuracy value and (3) timestamp.

The “Next format” button loops through four different colored screens. Each screen displays the user’s coordinates in a different format. If the accuracy value remains over 100 meters after 30 seconds then an error message appears advising the user on things they can do to improve the accuracy of the coordinates. After FindMeSAR is opened for the first time on a phone it can then be opened when the phone is offline. If the user’s browser is online then the “Display map” button will launch Gmap4 (enhanced Google map viewer) and display the user’s location on a variety of basemaps including high resolution USGS topographic maps (select basemap “t4 CalTopo Hi-res”).

FindMeSAR works worldwide and should help there to be less search and more rescue.
