APCO International has filed a Project Initiation with the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) to revise APCO American National Standard (ANS) Emergency Communications Common Disposition Codes for Data Exchange.
Standards Working Groups Seeking Members
When APCO creates a new standard or revises an existing one, the working groups are the creative minds behind the standard. Groups include about 15 volunteers with training, operations or technical backgrounds who research and write a standard together. The following working groups are currently seeking members:
- Emergency Communications Common Disposition Codes For Data Exchange
- Minimum Operational Standards for the use of TTY/TDD or Similar Device in the ECC
- Core Competencies and Minimum Training Standards for Public Safety Communications Instructor
- Core Competencies and Minimum Training Standards for Public Safety Communications Quality Assurance Evaluators
- Minimum Technical Requirements for Remote Support to Emergency Communications Center Operations.

Interruptions to the public’s ability to reach 9-1-1 are a serious concern. As a practice, APCO does not comment on specific outages until we are confident that the causes are fully understood, but here’s what we know about outages in general.
