The Tornado app seems to be a great idea to alert the public of an imminent tornado threat. What’s really helpful is the app offers suggestions on how to prepare for a tornado and what to do after a tornado. There are also quizzes that you can complete to improve your knowledge on tornadoes.

There is an audible alert that will sound if you are in the path of a tornado or if a location that you’ve chosen to monitor is in the path. Even if the power goes out and cell towers go down, your phone will give you the all clear signal after a period of time has passed. Many of the functions that are educational (what to do’s) do not require cellular connectivity. When the power is out and you need to find out what to do next, the app will still work.

There are many more useful features including connectivity to social media sites. The only downfall I saw with the app is that if your phone is in silent or sleep mode, the audible alert will not override that setting. I think this should be a setting by the user, not a standard setting for the app.

If I lived in a tornado alley, I would install and use this app.
